The book of Acts recounts the birth of the church on Pentecost.  On that day, the Holy Spirit, represented by a dove, descends in a rush of wind and with tongues of fire.  A boat with a cross-shaped mast, represents Christ's power helping us to "navigate" the troubled times in life.
